Another fall item - Victoria Clarke's Fall Brooch

I really enjoyed being with Vicki Clarke at Tat Days. I think that everytime I smell lavender I will not only think of my mother but also of Vicki. Here is what I entered in the SC State Fair. I enjoyed making the flowers but adapted the Shuttle Brother's method of pushing the little joining picots to the back so I could find them. I liked the idea of a 3 D leaf so have been playing around with them since Vicki got me started.

O Christmas Tree O Christmas Tree

Riet had done the Nancy Tracy pattern for the Christmas tree and put it in a candle holder. I couldn't resist trying it in size 80 thread and adding the red lights (beads) as she had done. The only thing was, when I got to the top, I just had to had a star on top.....just had too. So I played around with the beads and this is what I came up with.

Playing around with Fall Leaves

Riet and I have been playing with threads and making fall leaves along with snakes and spiders for the State Fair.

The one on the top is Marilee Rockley's thread. The two alike are Lori and Hope's "George" thread. I will let you guess which leaves are Riet's and which ones are Pam's.

July Tatting

Exactly 1 month ago I started this blog after a PTG Meeting. This month I wrote down what I have tatted and I am truely amazed for a turtle like me. I think I have tatted more in this month that I have in any year of my life.....that is with keeping the 3 doodlebugs!

1 Victorian bookmark - Marilynn Brockley
I was test tatting the thread that Hegla had given us at the meeting and I need more bookmarks to give away.

2. Eternal Rose Bracelet - Marilynn Brockley pattern for the rose and her hand died thread given to me by Marie Smith

3. Eternal Rose Earrings MB from left over thread on shuttles.

4. Started a necklace Eternal Rose - MB

5. Split Ring Bracelet for Emma - Juliet Herring's pattern
Used pink and yellow nylon thread

6. Made a pattern for lightening bugs using florescing yellow thread from Joanie then after several attempts and help from Jerry made 6 I can give away.

7. Sweet Minnie Hummingbirds - Karey Solomon's pattern in new Tatting Times. Made 3 so far

8. Gary the Snail - Pschedelic that is for Emma using Nancy Tracy's pattern.

9. Finished part 1 lesson on Dragonfly of Karey Solomon's

10. Turtle Earrings - se post already. Used up all my china berries and made 8 turtles.

11. Only got 3 snakes done this month.

12. made 4 more pairs of Beaded Earrings - Sharron Morgan's pattern of course. I keep trying different threads and beads but like the Guatamala blue thread from Doris Patmos with blue beads the best.
13. 2 pairs of earrings using pattern Joanie sent me the link to from LadyTats - Jeanne Lugert. This pattern is great for using thread left on a shuttle. Takes 4 beads times 5 rings.

Gary the Snail

I finally got to sit down with my 5 year old granddaughter (aka Doodlebug Emma) and understand how I should make Gary the Snail from Sponge Bob Square Pants. Well, I used Nancy Tracy's pattern and wild DMC colors. Now that I have him done and Emma approves I am tatting him in the "correct" Gary colors.

China Berry Turtle Earrings

Just finished trying to figure out Donna Thompson's cute turtle earrings. I wanted to make some but also use my chinaberry beads, so here it what I came up with.

Turtle Earrings by Pam Freck July 1, 2009
3 yards of size 20 thread (1 1/2 yards on shuttle)
4 beads for feet and 1 large bead for body (I used china berry)

Thread shuttle adding 2 beads for body. Add the 2 beads to the ball thread. Between these 2 beads pull the thread in a loop through the body bead making sure that if the bead tilts you will need to put the tilt so that the head will tilt up (this is at the shuttle/ball thread side). I used a safety pin to hold the loop through the bead.

Head
Ring 8 ds

Body
Put beads on ring when forming around hand
S/R 3 B 4 B 3/ put body bead tightly against first stitch with the slack out of the loop
then do 2nd half of split ring 3 B 4 B 3.
Then do a 2nd half of a split ring join by passing a crochet hook through the hook, pulling up the core thread from around hand to form 2nd loop then passing the thread (or shuttle 2 if you put thread on another shuttle) through this loop. Snap the loop to transfer the loop to the 2nd thread then follow with the 1st stitch then close ring. Form a square knot at base.

Tail
Lock chain 1 ds unflipped, 1 ds flipped, 1 ds unflipped. Make another square knot (I use the surgeon’s knot) then cut ends.

I used a split ring finding through the head so the thread wouldn’t wear and so that the head would remain at an angle with the body.

Day 1 PTG Tatting Guild Meeting

I learned some exciting news at the PTG meeting about a dear tatter so I have created a blog so I can go find hers and see if what I heard is true.
